America Uncovered: U.S. History Through Time (9th-12th)
Curriculum: Land of Hope Textbook and Student Workbook (1st Edition)
Step into the story of America in this engaging high school U.S. History course aligned with California state standards. Using rich historical narratives, primary sources, and discussion-based learning, students will explore the people, events, and ideas that shaped the United States from the founding era through modern America.
Students will study major topics including the American Revolution, the Constitution and founding principles, westward expansion, the Civil War, Reconstruction, industrialization, immigration, the World Wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and contemporary American history. Through thoughtful reading and guided discussions, students will examine both the triumphs and challenges that helped form the nation’s identity.
This class emphasizes critical thinking, historical analysis, and meaningful conversation as students learn to evaluate historical events, understand cause and effect, and connect the past to the world around them. Students will also strengthen writing, research, and communication skills through essays, projects, and discussion-based activities.
America Uncovered brings history to life through powerful stories, engaging ideas, and a deeper exploration of the American experience, making history meaningful, memorable, and relevant for today’s students.
This class is aligned with A-G curriculum standards and will satisfy a semester of High School United States History and Geography standards.
At-home assignments are necessary on non-tutoring days to complete course.
Class Meets Monday and Wednesday from 11:15 am - 12:30 pm at Westside Church, Placerville CA in conjunction with Community Learning Alliance.

Sketch Studio: Foundations of Drawing & Design (7th-12th)
Unleash your creativity in this fun and encouraging art class focused on the foundations of drawing and artistic design! Students will learn essential drawing techniques while building confidence, creativity, and artistic skills through hands-on practice and guided projects.
Throughout the class, students will explore important art concepts such as lines, shapes, curves, shading, texture, perspective, proportion, composition, and color theory. Students will practice using different drawing materials while learning how artists use color, light, and design to bring artwork to life.
Projects may include sketching animals, landscapes, still life objects, cartoon characters, nature studies, abstract art, and color-based creations designed to strengthen observation and artistic expression.
This class encourages creativity, patience, and self-expression in a supportive environment where students can grow at their own pace. Whether students are brand new to drawing or already enjoy creating art, Sketch Studio provides a strong artistic foundation while making art fun, approachable, and inspiring.
Monday: A full-year high school art course (enrolled by semester) designed to meet high school A–G VAPA requirements. (Suitable for grades: 7–12.
Wednesday: A fun, quarterly art exploration class (grades 4–8) designed to spark creativity and develop drawing skills.
Classes Meets Monday or Wednesday from 2:20 - 3:20 pm or at Westside Church, Placerville CA in conjunction with Community Learning Alliance.
Class Cost: $200/quarter
